RELIGIOUS SERVICES & FESTIVALS

Shabbat is regularly celebrated – see below – as well as the High Holy Days and various festivals, all of which are led by our experienced team of lay readers.

FRIDAY EVENING SERVICES

These start at 7.30pm and are followed by Kiddush – an excellent opportunity to socialise! We also hold Shabbatons from time to time, as well as mini study sessions.

SHABBAT SERVICES

These start at 10.00m and are held on various Saturdays throughout the year.

HIGH HOLY DAYS

Services are held on both days of Rosh Hashanah, as well as Erev Yom Kippur and Yom Kippur itself; the service held on the eve of Yom Kippur provides an opportunity to support our annual charity appeal.
As for Yom Kippur, it’s now become a pleasant Colchester tradition to break the fast in the synagogue itself.
Services tend to follow a more traditional format – we began life in the 1960s as an Orthodox shul – but over the years we have adapted our approach, and now every effort is made to make our services feel more meaningful and inclusive.

ACTIVE PARTICIPATION

Members able and willing to help with services are always welcome.
