SHAVUOT CELEBRATIONS

SHAVUOT CELEBRATIONS – 22nd May 2026 – 6 Sivan 5786
We were privileged to attend a cheesecake-rich, Friday night/Shavuot service, led by Henry! Familiar tunes and prayers were given added depth by Henry’s reading of the late Jonathan Sacks’ exploration of the festival; not only does Shavuot celebrate the giving of the Torah, it also marks spring turning into summer and various mysteries surrounding the festival’s timing: 50 days after Pesach, yes – but which date in Pesach kicks off the countdown?!
The service was followed by kiddush and a gorgeous cheesecake from Reuby’s of Clacton, courtesy of our member Roy. Alternatives were also available for allergy sufferers.
Adam was wished long life on the very recent passing of his dear father.
Kaddish was also recited for Rafi’s dear mother, who had passed away recently, as well as for Henry’s mother and Allison’s father.
Many thanks to Allison for preparing both the kiddush and the event, and also to Henry for leading such an engaging service; it was a lovely traditional and sociable evening.
