REGULAR RELIGIOUS SERVICES & FESTIVALS
“The absence of a resident Rabbi in Colchester seems always to have strengthened the determination of lay readers in the Community to maintain continuity of religious services over the years. ” The Community relies on lay members to lead and conduct its religious affairs and services. Miraculously such leaders have emerged without fail for many years now. All are owed the gratitude of the Community Services use the Singer’s Siddur.
FRIDAY EVENING SERVICES
Held in the synagogue on various Friday evening’s throughout the year commencing at 7.30pm. Attendees enjoy a Shabbat evening service followed by Kiddush wine and Challah. Shabbatons are held from time to time as well as mini study sessions. “Arriving a little early and not being in too much of a hurry to leave after the service provides an opportunity for some socialising”
SHABBAT SERVICES
Are held in the synagogue on various Saturday’s throughout the year commencing at 10am.
HIGH HOLY DAYS
Services are held to celebrate the New Year on both days of Rosh Hashanah The service held on the eve of Yom Kippur provides an opportunity for members to support the annual charity appeal. The Yom Kippur service is followed by Breaking the Fast in the synagogue. Although the services follow the traditional form every effort is made to make them meaningful by concentrating on the more accessible aspects of the service.
ACTIVE PARTICIPATION
Members able and willing to assist in services are always welcome to contribute and should make themselves known to the Warden.
